One baler is used exclusively to bale corrugated cardboard, the other to crush mixed plastics and light metals. As each bale is completed it is transferred to a storage bin. This significantly decreases the number of trips into Vancouver and reduces the cost and frequency of shipments. Composting organic waste on island Knick Knack Nook is committed to promoting the concept of on-island organic waste processing. To this end we have provided $5,528 toward the Bowen composting initiative to make an initial site evaluation and to assess the financial and operational implications of operating a facility on island.
An earlier study in 2011 was also commissioned called “Bowen Island Organic Resource Recovery Report”
